Different type of leave
Paid sick leave
Employees who have worked for more than 6 months are entitled to 14 days of sick leave per year. A sick leave certificate issued by a company doctor or a government doctor is required to apply for sick leave. Paid sick leave is not as long as annual leave, and it can be up to two months in hospital.
Compassionate leave
Many employers allow employees to take 3 days of compassionate leave when an immediate family member dies.
Marriage leave
Most Singapore companies have marriage leave, usually 3 days.
Paid maternity leave
Paid maternity leave in Singapore is up to four months, but the employer must be notified one week in advance. The father of the child is entitled to half a month of paternity leave. This paid is capped at a maximum of SGD 2,500 per week.
There are still some conditions to get paid maternity leave:
- The child is a Singapore citizen;
- Must be a legal marriage;
- worked in the same unit for more than three months;
- Employers must be notified one week in advance, otherwise half of the salary will be deducted;
Paid parental leave
Each pair of parents has 6 days of parental leave each year before the child turns 7 years old. If the previous annual leave is added, it is still considerable, but this discount is more inclined to local citizens. For non-Singapore citizens, each pair of parents only Two days of parental leave.
Paid annual leave
In the first year of work, they are entitled to a minimum of 7 days and a maximum of 21 days of annual leave. Most employees enjoy 2 to 3 weeks of annual leave. Singapore has 11 statutory holidays every year.
If a statutory holiday coincides with an employee’s holiday, the next working day automatically becomes a paid holiday.
Remember that annual leave must take effect after three months of working in the company. This operation is relatively normal.

Most companies in Singapore have a Annual Wage Supplement (AWS), and some companies also decide different steps of year-end bonus according to the number of years of employment of employees, such as 1.1 months, 1.25 months, etc.

Employers generally provide employees with life, personal accident and hospital insurance, ranging from 12 months to 36 months of salary, with an average of 24 months; if employees are injured or sick due to work, they will receive compensation from the employer.
Families of employees who die on the job will be compensated.
From 1 January 1996, the maximum compensation for permanent injury is S$147,000; for death, the maximum compensation is S$111,000.
In addition, employers must also pay for medical expenses, hospitalization expenses, etc., and pay wages as usual during the period of employee recovery.
