Ministry of Manpower (MOM) Conducts Inspections to Enhance Workplace Safety, Issuing Fines for Hazardous Conditions
From June to August 2024, the Ministry of Manpower in Singapore conducted over 720 inspections at workplaces to address potential hazards that could lead to slips, trips, and falls. During this period, 85 fines were issued, totaling over S$180,000. This initiative aims to enhance workplace safety and protect workers from injuries.
According to a post by the Ministry on Facebook, slips, trips, and falls were the top three causes of serious workplace injuries in 2023, significantly impacting employee health and work efficiency. During these inspections, authorities found that some construction sites failed to keep pathways and floors clear of protrusions, debris, or other obstacles that could lead to slips or trips. Additionally, some factory floors had large holes, posing safety risks that urgently needed to be addressed to improve the working environment.
The Ministry is urging employers to strengthen safety measures to prevent such incidents from occurring.
